Christmas at WDW is going to be missing a few things…

We still think any day at Disney World is better than not being there yet it is going to be different than any other year this Holiday season. A lot of it is due to the distancing protocols, some because of hours and still others because their is no resort hopping allowed. This is not necessarily bad because there will be new stuff in place of the the traditions. It is just plain going to be unique which could be a good reason to book for this holiday season. I love the Voices of Liberty so them doing a whole concert can definitely help with the changes.

Here is what is happening this holiday season:

Disney Resort hotels will be decked out for the holidays, with their lobbies featuring iconic trees and other festive flourishes. One thing to keep in mind is that our gingerbread displays will not return to the Resort hotels this year. While we know they are a favorite of people taking in the holiday décor, we’re not able to include those displays due to physical distancing guidelines.

Also up on the chopping block is Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, The Christmas Tree Trail in Disney Springs, and now Epcot’s Candlelight Processional but there is some good news of some other special Holiday events and attractions instead…

Official Word from Disney:

When night falls, special projection effects will give a festive look to Cinderella Castle this year, providing a colorful backdrop for our guests’ photos. The appearance of the iconic castle will be transformed with a rotating series of designs including a whimsical Christmas sweater and a regal overlay of red, green and gold ornamentation. This will be in place of the Castle Dream Lights. Other holiday experiences that draw big crowds will be on hiatus this year as well, such as Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and Candlelight Processional at EPCOT. We know these experiences are a cherished part of holiday traditions that will be missed by guests and cast members alike, but we’re glad to be able to bring holiday magic in other creative ways.

Guests will be invited to step inside World ShowPlace to enjoy the returning group, JOYFUL!, who present a journey through R&B, Gospel, contemporary and traditional Christmas, and holiday music. Also, the Voices of Liberty will bring their incredible 8-part harmonies to the America Gardens Theatre stage for a special concert of favorite carols and songs of the season. There are plenty more details about this festival to come

The Very Merry Christmas Party

We did the Christmas Party years ago and it was fun. It is  a must do if you have never experienced it. Snowing on Main Street in Florida-fun, Minnie and Mickey in Christmas outfits, the parade, dance parties, cookies, hot chocolate -all fun. The amazing Christmas themed Fireworks-also amazing. Disney does it great, not to mention getting into the park at 4pm with your hard ticket and not using your regular tickets saving theme for another day – definetly worth it. You can do other stuff during the day or do like we did and go the first night you arrive. The kids did get pooped out before then but it was definetly one to experience.
